Managed 401(k) Total Solution

To assist investment advisors who serve the 401(k) market, Trust Company of America offers the 401(k) Total Solution.

Bundling recordkeeping and plan administration responsibilities and leveraging our trading and custody services, the service is ideal for advisors who provide money management expertise to 401(k) plans.

Trust Company Managed 401(k) Total Solution

Working from a completely flexible platform, Trust Company of America offers a managed 401(k) Total Solution that benefits plan participants, plan sponsors, and advisors alike.

Fully Adaptable

Flexible enough to handle advisor-managed strategies, self-managed options and standard custody duties, Trust Company can tailor a solution to meet the specific needs of nearly any 401(k) plan administrator. It can also accommodate the investment advisor looking to provide money management services to defined contribution plans.

Streamlined Records and Reporting

Trust Company’s 401(k) Total Solution keeps interested parties at all levels informed on a real-time basis. Through a web-based interface that may be privately branded, plan participants may monitor their retirement plans. Advisors running managed strategies may review performance on a daily basis. Third party administrators for plans using Trust Company as the single custodian will enjoy similar efficiencies while coordinating their recordkeeping responsibilities.

A Single Point of Accountability

Through the 401(k) Total Solution, which encompasses plan administration, daily valuation, recordkeeping, document preparation, transaction processing, distribution, and custody, Trust Company covers every aspect of a defined contribution plan. In addition, regardless of the size of the plan or the extent of the relationship, we provide a service team that is dedicated to achieving maximum client satisfaction.

Custody

At the foundation of Trust Company of America’s 401(k) plan offerings is its custody expertise. Maintaining a strong focus on protecting assets of any type and size, we help provide peace of mind to plan participants, sponsors, and administrators.

Managed Strategy Option

Our unique integrated managed strategies platform allows investment advisors to effectively offer money management services to 401(k) or other defined contribution plans by leveraging strategies used with existing clients.

Working with a plan sponsor, an advisor may develop unique blends of individual mutual funds that fulfill requirements for a diverse mix of investment offerings. Many times, these will match investment choices that the advisor has already researched for other clients or defined contribution plans.

Once the assets are allocated, the advisor enjoys an automated flow of information from Trust Company of America, allowing for daily valuations, regardless of the number of investment choices under management. This results in lower costs and better service to the plan.

The Total Solution

For more complex defined contribution plans, Trust Company of America’s 401(k) Total Solution features the complete range of services necessary to establish, administer, and operate the plan. This allows us to offer self-directed funds at the plan level and managed strategies at the participant level.

Offering a truly integrated relationship with all custody, administration, recordkeeping, and investment activities occurring under one roof, our sophisticated approach to the 401(k) market allows us to offer almost any service a client requires.

Third Party Administrators

While the 401(k) Total Solution is generally offered as a bundled service, Trust Company of America also works with select third party administrators. While we provide services such as daily reporting, recordkeeping, money management, trading, and custody, independent third party administrators may offer plan administration duties such as compliance testing, Form 5500 preparation, and document support services.

Mutual Fund Choices

To help facilitate an effectively designed 401(k) plan, Trust Company of America supports an extensive list of mutual fund choices, all offered at Net Asset Value (NAV) prices. When offered as part of a managed strategy, plan participants own the underlying funds. This reduces the potential liabilities of strategies being deemed unregistered investment companies and eliminates the slippage that can occur when cash flows in or out of a pooled environment.

Directed Trustee Services

Trust Company of America can act as a plan’s directed trustee, serving as instructed by the official trustee. For plans requesting the heightened level of responsibility, we will provide certified trust statements.

Automated Distribution Processing

Trust Company of America can make distributions directly to participants. We also support federal tax withholding, if needed, and submit the necessary 1099R filings on the plan administrator’s behalf.

Program Fees

Fees assessed on 401(k) plan services will vary based on plan assets, the money management approach, and the services provided by third party administrators. Trust Company of America generally charges an asset-based fee that covers any custody and trading costs and may be passed on to plan participants. It’s possible, however, that a portion of the service fees and sub transfer agent fees paid by the mutual funds may be used to offset plan costs. Furthermore, agreements with some fund families may allow us to subsidize some of the plan’s investment costs.
